Careers Adviser/Lead Careers Adviser

Can you provide careers information and advice to adults about learning and work?

Connexions Cornwall and Devon Ltd has been awarded the contract to procure and manage the adult Careers Information and Advice Service (CIAS), nextstep, from 1st August 2008 in the South West. The delivery of information and advice services will be managed in partnership with Connexions West of England.

Connexions West of England is seeking to appoint a number of Careers Advisers to provide advice to adults in Gloucestershire, West of England (Bath & N.E. Somerset, Bristol, N. Somerset and S. Gloucestershire) and Swindon & Wiltshire.

Successful candidates must:
• either hold a level 4 qualification in careers advice and guidance or be working towards this qualification
• have a genuine interest in supporting adults with choices about learning and work
• be competent in providing careers advice in 1-to-1 and group work settings in outreach locations

Closing date for applications is 12:00 noon July 16th 2008. Interviews are likely to be held week beginning July 28th 2008.

Executive Personal Assistant

Ref: EPA

Full-time permanent post 37 hours per week
Starting salary is £19,086

Connexions West of England, North Somerset Area, is currently seeking to employ an Executive Personal Assistant to the Connexions Executive Manager.  The successful candidate will be a motivated individual who is able to provide highly skilled administrative support.

The main duties will involve communicating with a diverse range of people including those at very senior levels.  The role will involve managing the Executive Manager’s diary, appointments and meetings.  A key aspect of the role will be to maintain the finance/budget and accounting systems for the Executive Manager.

We are looking for a person who can be both proactive and respond flexibly to the requirements of a very busy Executive Manager.

You will need to have:
• High level communication skills
• A practical and professional approach to the work environment
• Good level of IT literacy.

Applicants  must hold a recognised qualification to a minimum of NVQ level 3 in Administration or evidence of an equivalent level of relevant experience.

Information Systems Co-ordinator

Full-time permanent post 37 hours per week
Starting salary  H8 £22,328

Connexions West of England, North Somerset Area, is currently seeking to employ an Information Systems Co-ordinator. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual able to administer, maintain and develop the local ICT infrastructure.

Maintaining the information systems, providing reports, statistical data and analysis of information to the Management Team in order to meet with company contractual obligations forms a major part of the work.  Providing IT support and training to users as and when required is another important part of the role.

Communication skills are required to give advice and guidance on IT matters as well as an ability to work in an accurate, organised and logical way to solve IT problems. The ability to work well autonomously and manage the workload effectively whilst demonstrating a high degree of flexibility will be essential. 

Applicants must hold a recognised qualification relating to the use and application of information technology systems to at least NVQ level 4, or evidence of an equivalent level of relevant experience e.g. Business Information Systems (BSc); Information Systems (BSc); Business Computing (BSc).

Vacancy Support Worker

Fixed term contract until 31st March 2009

Bristol Area has a part-time, fixed term vacancy for a Vacancy Support Worker, 20 hours per week.

You will produce the Bristol Vacancy Bulletin, liaising with employers and keeping up to date with local opportunities for young people. You will also provide administrative support for the work of the Bristol Connexions Drop-in centre at 4 Colston Avenue. Able to demonstrate competence in administrative support work and the use of IT systems, you will be organised and able to manage your own workload, innovate and implement solutions.

Are you looking for an exciting career development opportunity within the business of improving outcomes for young people? Connexions West of England- Bristol Area, currently have two full-time, permanent vacancies for Trainee Personal Advisers.

As a Trainee Personal Adviser you will provide high quality information, advice and guidance to young people, removing barriers to learning and brokering access to a range of specialist services, enabling them to reach their full potential. You will be committed to developing your own learning and skills, studying towards an NVQ4 in Learning, Development and Support Services, whilst gaining on the job experience working with young people in a variety of settings.

To apply you must be able to evidence relevant experience of working in a related role with young people and hold a qualification equivalent to NVQ3. Used to acting on your own initiative and taking responsibility for your own learning, you will be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of education and training systems, and have the ability to problem solve, innovate, plan and implement solutions effectively.

Connexions Casual Hours PA

Bristol Division
Salary scale: £21,232 to £29,269 pro rata
(starting salary depends on qualifications held)


The Bristol office of Connexions West of England are currently building a register of PAs willing to work on a casual basis on a number of projects across Bristol.


You will support, assist and advise young people enabling them to participate effectively in appropriate learning opportunities by raising their aspirations and self-confidence, removing barriers to learning and by brokering access to a range of specialist services, enabling them to reach their full potential. You must hold a recognised professional qualification equivalent to at least NVQ Level 4 in a specialisation relevant to the core activities of Connexions, e.g. careers guidance, youth and community work, social work, teaching, education welfare.  You will also have recent relevant experience of working with young people.
