The law says you can agree to have sex from age 16. But remember - you don’t have to have sex, even if you are old enough.
Having sex is a big decision, especially if it’s your first time. You should never feel under pressure. It’s okay to say no.
If you have sex, make sure it’s safe sex. This will protect you against:
• an unplanned pregnancy
• catching a serious disease that could make you very sick
• getting an infection that could make you very sore.
Some diseases and infections can make you infertile. This means you might not be able to naturally conceive children later in life.
