What is a Connexions Personal Adviser?

A Connexions Personal Adviser is a qualified person to help anyone aged 13-19 (25 if you have a learning difficulty or a disability, or both) with any issues that concern them. They will encourage and support young people in making successful progress into adult life.

Every teenager can access a personal adviser. They are based in schools, colleges, Connexions Centres and other community settings like youth centres.

You can talk one-to-one to a Personal Adviser about:

  • Careers
  • Education and learning
  • Free time
  • Health
  • Housing
  • The law, your rights and responsibilities
  • Money
  • Personal development
  • Relationships
  • Sex and sexuality
  • Volunteering
  • Work and training.

What else can a Personal Adviser do for you?

  • They will listen to you. They won’t judge you.
  • They can give you information, advice and support with any of the issues listed above.
  • They can help you make informed decisions about careers and education and training choices.
  • They can help you deal with anything that might be stopping you achieving the best with your life.

When you talk to a Personal Adviser any information about you, or anything you say, will not be passed onto other people without your permission. This includes parents and carers, teachers or other organisations. However, in some very special situations, Connexions West of England may share information about you to other organisations. You will always be told the reasons why. One example would be if you were being abused and needed protection and care.
